Alexa.com – definitely addictive when things are going your way

I know why Alexa.com is so addictive . It reminds me of looking at stock charts.

There are uptrends, downtrends, breakdowns, breakouts. Like the people that move stocks with buys and sells, so do Alexa trends switch with eyeballs.

I am not the only one with the problem. They did not create Alexaholic for nothing!

That said, I was reading a post by Michael Arrington at Tech Crunch about Delicious , a recent Yahoo acquisition. The Alexa chart is not one you would buy. I have to imagine that Yahoo is not happy looking at this chart (Note – like a stock chart that looks bad – they will look to all sorts of other metrics that look better – to provide comfort). As little faith as I have in the absolute ranking or numbers on Alexa, I trust the trends.

On the other side, GolfNow has an Alexa chart I would be buying . In size.

Not “counting my chickens” Fred , just dreaming.

I staand corrected abd see Tech crunch did a response as well. Thanks

BUT can't argue the breakout in Golf
  • Their growth may have stalled but that Alexa data is garbage. First, they're measuring delicious.com. Huh? Who even knows that there *is* such a domain. I'd bet that over 90% of the people use del.icio.us.

What's more, I, like many others who commented on the TechCrunch post, use delicious all the time but rarely ever visit the actual site. I always enter links via a bookmarklet and like many other folks access bookmarks via RSS.

I won't even get into the questions about who actually has the Alexa toolbar installed...
