Next month is my annual pilgrimmage to Bandon Dunes and I need to get my game in shape for 4 days of sweet golf.

At Golfnow.com, the team has completely integrated the TeeTines Hawaii acquisition and we are live with tee time inventory . It’s so sweet.

Golfnow.com is a very locally focused business, but Hawaii changes the game now as it is ‘The’ travel golf destination and we have the top courses and their inventory. Mexico too actually.

Eddie is doing just that at the GolfNow blog. I sent him a few articles this weekend and he put together a great post on the woeful state of the business of golf for the manufacturers.

I saw the new squarehead drivers that Callaway and Nike are offering up. They are turds. If Tiger were to win 10 tournies in a row with a square driver – no one will switch. The technology is in the shaft these days and if you can swing a club, that’s where you will tweak your game. The GolfBlog is reporting that Taylor made is avoiding this marketing and product fiasco .

Even Nike will suffer in the golf industry this year. Tiger winning, while great, is rather boring already for consumers.

Also – I totally dig the Adidas golf apparel. They have nailed it the last three years.

Something not in need of repair is Keri at GolfNow.tv. Oy. Check her out today. I asked the guys to buy her the blouse in every color.

The major barrier to any ubiquotis technology – is still falling. in the meantime, tons of profits to be had by investors on the way.

I like Garmin (GRMN), Trimble (TRMB) and NavTeq (NVT). I used to love Lojack but have long exited.

At Golfnow.com, we are leveraging the customer relationship (booking tee times) to build a community. For a long time, the founders thought they would just code it themselves. I bugged them to move faster – no surprise.

They launched Golfnow.tv a few weeks ago and it is a quick success. In the end, they decided that the tools were more efficient than starting from scratch. Good decision. They are offering customers used to ONLY transacting, a little something more. It is a simple trivia game. Here is today’s trivia with Keri doing a great job:

They are using Kickapps tools to build out the community offerings. Not perfect…yet.

Every community is different. At GolfNow, the customers don’t need anything complicated or something elaborately produced. Simple and interactive.

The average age of existing Golfnow users is 43 years old. I guarantee we can expand the customer base and bring that down by backing in Golfnow.tv.

My friend Eddie Daroza who I met from his comments on this site is going to spearhead a new blog initiative at GolfNow and bring about some new and different energy to the semi mundane golf blogging world. Eddie is the man. I read his Rad Report everyday. I love golf and I plan on writing a little for the golfnow blog as well. Already started.

GolfNow is such a great service. Everybody wins because Golf courses sell times they struggled selling and their average sales price actually rises. Because it is a mom and pop industry at the course level, there has never been a definitive way to leverage the internet to sell tee times before GolfNow’s middleware.

Over the next few months I expect it to be a kick ass community for golfers as well.

By the way – winter is over in Phoenix. It is 80 degrees and perfect outside. Golf is definately on my mind again.

I have been hounding the team to get a community launched around the GolfNow.com avid customers. Once you book a tee time through us, you are hooked. The tough part has been done. We have hundreds of thousands of customers coming to our site for tee times. We send out tee time specials to golfers in over 30 markets each morning. The show is simple and has a built in audience. I like the design as well. They have incorporated some cool community building tools from KickApps. Thanks to Fred and Bijan for the leads and introductions to speed the process.

They are incorporating many of the ideas I have shared and learned from my experiences and that feels great. I wish they had launched before Wallstrip, so that I could have gleaned some stuff from them first (cheaper for me and my partners), but that’s life!
