I don’t know how just 2 guys – Danel and Jason – do it, but they are everywhere. Disqus just plain rocks for commenting and conversation across platforms. Just this week they:

1. Added GRAVATAR Support – basically all you yutz’s without a face shot can just grab a Gravatar for your disqus profile. Get on it already.

2. Integrated with Plaxo

3. Had their t-shirts arrive :) . The next reader of the blog to integrate disqus onto their blog and let me know can have a cool t-shirt from the guys.

TubeMogul

Web Video shows and clip use continues along an insane growth path. I will have a detailed thought post up on the weekend. In the meantime, Tubemogul is rocking and just this week added HowCast to it’s toolset . The product received lot’s of good press this week as well and their blog is becoming a great source of information on web video trends. They are starting to post very regularly so if you are interested in web video trends and developments, you should subscribe to their blog.

I met Kenny when he founded Ride snowboards and I was an early entrepreneur with The Gripp. They tried to buy our business and we unfortunately turned it down. Kenny was also one of the founders of GSI Commerce (NASD – GSIC).

We have been busy for sure . The fund is more opportunistic in it’s strategy. I anticipate 5-10 percent of the assets to be allocated towards internet angel and VC investments. I have not had the opportunity to talk much about all the activity. I will be pushing Kenny to post to the KBC blog on deal structure and turnarounds and some different topics. He is an operating and investing magician.

To keep things simple, we have also purchased the General Partner interests of my one year old fund Biltmore Ventures . The investments to date are Lifelock.com, MyTrade.com, vSocial.com, AdaptiveBlue.com and CopperKey. The Fund has been renamed as Knight’s Bridge Capital Partners Internet Fund. We will continue to make investments in the internet space with the assets in the fund.

If you are starting a web business today, how about a ‘Chief Revenue Officer’ and ‘Chief of Burn Rate Control’ – that reports to the founder and investors

Too many biz plans with ‘free’ as the basis for building a business around eyeballs that will some day lead to ads that nobody clicks on.

I am not saying that ‘Freemium ‘, as Fred calls it, is dead. BUT, if you don’t have MAJOR VC backing or lightning strikes your genius application, than really, why bother.

I don’t have the energy anymore to start or back a business that relies on building eyeballs first and no click throughs later.

If WordPress had a ‘Chief Revenue Officer’, someone could at least be ‘FIRED ‘ for not calling me to ask me to pay SOMETHING, ANYTHING (I will pay $240 if someone from WordPress just picks up the phone and calls me to ask for it) for all the wonderfullnessessisness that this software has brought to me. If they are just expecting to me to pick up the phone and donate, I won’t.

Waaaaay to much revenue being left on the table by Web 2.0 companies and way too many Web 2.0 companies being started and funded without revenue number one on their mind. It is really time to start caring if you are a founder and a VC.

I wake up to congrats from my blogger/friends via email on the WEBX deal (who needs CNBC). I have made some absolutley incredible friends blogging and through my ventures the last 12 months. It is astounding.

I walk to work. It is 70 degrees and perfectly sunny. The ambien haze makes everything seem Star Trekky.

Andy Monfried flew through town on the way back home from San Fran and got to meet and catch up face to face. We met through the blogosphere. He has an incredible startup . He could sell sand in the Sahara so having a cool product is just icing :) .

At lunch, I had the coolest small world thing happen. My friend Rick Segal (blog friend) who lives in Toronto emailed me that he was in town for the day. I met him for lunch and he was sitting with his brother Howard (obviously a stud). Turns out Howard and I are on the synagoue board together and friends, yet I never put it together. Nor did Howard or Rick until this morning.

Played catch with Max. Rachel let me kiss her (she wiped it off).

Finally a date night for Ellen and I. Our house was ravaged for 4 weeks by some flu bug that the US governement has cooked up to test on us…but I digress.

We saw ‘Lost Boys of Sudan’ . We should all see that and be thankful.

There are businesses that will always need gobs of money to start, but in the web software world, it remains a great time to fund and be funded.

If you are looking to be funded, think about what Josh say. If you are funding startups in the space, see my last sentence :) .

Here is the most important advice:

Shareholders agreement, minority rights and voting trusts are things you need to learn about before you give out the first share of your company.

The most important thing you can do is create a voting trust/minority shareholders agreement for all these 100 share or 1000 share things you will likely do in exchange for services or cash. Most people that help a start up are generally doing it to help you, to be nice, not looking for the retirement investment. They are taking a bit of a flyer on you. Toward that end, those people are about as passive as you can get. They should have no problem signing up for a structure that basically has them along for the ride. I’m not a lawyer so in non-legal terms you need to have an agreement in place that accomplishes these objectives:
• Prevents you chasing around the globe for shareholder signatures.
• Puts the minority shareholders in a voting trust
• Has a specific agreement that clearly identifies the rights/privileges of the minority shareholders.

It’s Om’s NewTeeVee with more depth and in the format it should be. Both are good for the industry but Veoh Viral is more relevant to vloggers.

Lifelock , one of my angel investments, closed on approximately $4.5 million in venture funding from Bessemer Venture Partners . Bessemer has a great website and has had just a few winners (Skype and Verisign) :) .

I am happy for everybody involved. This was a deal that I almost passed on 20 times. I could not get a good reading from a lot of my trusted friends and sources who reviewed it with me, but I am glad I took the opportunity. Identity Theft is not a trend that is going to fade anytime soon. From my reading of the growth statistics in identity theft, it seems like a “when”, not “if” problem.

Robert Maynard and Todd Davis, the founders, have worked smart and created a great business that has a great positive cash flow model and has grown very fast from practically the beginning. Although it is considered an internet company, even an internet security company, Todd and Robert have used the traditional models of PR and marketing to get the sales in high gear. They just get it. They have been great in letting me explore some creative ways to get the web marketing and affiliate programs underway. There is some great stuff in the pipeline.

It is also another great example of smart entrepreneurs and growing internet deal flow in the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix).

It looks like Alarm Clock broke the story on October 31st. I was under a muzzle order as usual :) .
