Marvel (MVL) on Wallstrip
Been catching up after 10 days on the road. Good to be home in Phoenix.
I don’t own Marvel (MVL), which we cover today on Wallstrip .
I don’t love contact or licensing as an investment. Just one of those things. Earnings can be choppy.
Marvel ‘THE BRAND” is great. Spiderman of course is the monster brand and Marvel has done as good a job milking it as a Company can do in the media space and have brought back the other characters as well. They are opening a freaking theme park in Dubai . Dubai could be the creepiest place on earth.
It just fits into my “Can’t Own Everything” motto but it’s ok to look. That has been a mistake and the best recent entry was back at $25 ish back in late 2006 .
I also think the market has anticipated a blockbuster so anything less could be a disappointment this summer and a weak stock. If I were long, I would see no reason to sell, just be aware of the front running of the big money ahead of the movie.
Here is the Marvel ‘Listening Post .’ The interpretation is as follows:
Marvel enjoys extremely positive sentiment in the blogosphere, ranking in the top 10% of all brands. Discussion about Marvel is significant and focused, indicating a strong brand message is being carried forth by bloggers. Buzz about Marvel seems about equally split between comics and movies. In the last week and month, the hot topics are “Spiderman 3″ and the announcement that Edward Norton will be playing the “Incredible Hulk”.
Digging deeper into the details, we find that two of Marvel’s characters seem to enjoy cult-like status, Spiderman’s “Jimmy Olsen”
and Archie’s “Veronica”, and it looks like the most violent-filled discussions are around Marvel’s new “Transformers” movie.
