TubeMogul Acquires Illumenix

Here at TubeMogul, our offices are buzzing over our recent acquisition of Illumenix, an video flash player analytics startup. Illumenix’s suite of patent-pending measurement tools, which can be set up in any flash player within minutes, are going to be wrapped up into something we are calling TubeMogul InPlay, which we plan to offer to video sites, marketing/advertising agencies and content creators. As the economy contracts and ad spending worsens, measuring a video’s effectiveness will be more important than ever, a fact that was not lost on us as we negotiated the deal. Here are some of the metrics we now offer to anyone that hosts their own Flash video:

  • Viewed-Minutes: reveal how much of a video is actually watched by geographic region.
  • Embedded Views: track detailed viewing behavior that occurs outside of your website.
  • Geographics: where in the world are your viewers watching from?
  • Viewer Attention: when does a viewer click away?
  • Per-Stream Quality: video delivery metrics.

    Illumenix already tracks hundreds of millions of streams per month and current clients include “Internet Television” pioneer Revision3 and eBaum’s World, a comedy site that averages about 30 million streams a month.

    The deal also brings a wealth of new talent to the company, including senior engineers and executives.
