Why Stocktwits Desktop, Twitter $TWIT and Our Own Microblogging Platform

Update – Here are a few great articles about Stocktwits Desktop from people that did not interview us or have insight into what we are thinking:
Daily Finance: Stocktwits Peels off Twitter…Will Others Follow , and
Content Matters: Stocktwits Launches Desktop App (Barry Graubert)
Now that we have a few days under our belts, it’s time to start really digging into Stocktwits Desktop and our microblogging thoughts at Stocktwits.
First of all, Twitter $twit is the shizzle. We all make fun of it, but everyone takes shots at the ‘Champ’. It’s America and people love to hate the ‘Top Dog’.
Now that my friend Dick Costolo (Founder of Feedburner) is the new COO over at Twitter, I see great new possibiities for the Company. I am talking my small position though and digress.
The 24 hour, real time web is exhausting. Entrepreneurs are as energetic as ever, but the ‘NOW’ web is daunting and will pose greater challenges to entrepreneurial stamina, will and revenue creativity than ever before. I also believe the payoffs will be narrower and smaller than the old RISK YOUR LIFE dig a hole type entrepreneurship and windfall gains of old booms past .
Late last night I tweeted the following: “I believe the internet should close for a few hours a day just like Twitter”.
Phil Pearlman called me and said:
DUDE, you know I won’t say something was funny unless I REALLY thought it was funny….and that was funny. He said it reminded him of the old Steve Martin ‘I believe ‘ classic which includes:
“And I believe the United States should all foreigners in this country, provided they can speak our native language: Apache.”
There is no ONE language. There is no ONE platform or OPEN system. I don’t believe so anyway.
For the most part I believe in closed and as you know ‘Too Small to Fail’.
I would never have guessed that Twitter would be so popular for talking stocks and ideas. I have been working on it, hoping, betting, selling it, but you just never know.
It’s not Twitter’s fault they can’t return my screaming call within 2 seconds, let alone yours :) .
Today we know that our community wants true ‘REAL TIME’. Nobody pays for 10-15 minutes delayed quotes. Shit, nobody pays for real time quotes, but you still MUST offer it if you want to really compete.
Now you know why we started down the path of Stocktwits Desktop and our own Microblogging platform.
I will continue on the riff later. In the meantime, here is the great Steve Martin:
