For decades, I had the joy of tossing around American $5 bills at convenience stores in Canada to the respect and awe of the lovely people that run said respected operations.
‘Ooooh Mr. Lindzon, how pretty your money is….you may purcase $7 of our Candy for such worthy and lovely currency’
I may have been 19 and drunk, but this was power.
Last night after 6 hours in an Air Canada plane the size of a Mac Air 11 inch, I arrived in Toronto with said $5 and rushed to the convenience store where all my favorite candy in the world resides….Aero Bars, Crispy Crunch, Nibs, Fruitella’s and to my horror I was offered $4 for my bill.
I was like the Indian at the side of the highway (in that old commercial) that just stood and shed a tear at a passerby throwing garbage out the window.
Canada has ‘hand’.
