Yahoo…The Detroit of The Internet?

West coast mean is a lot different than east coast mean.

Yahoo is profitable.

Yahoo has cash flow up the wazoo.

Yahoo’s Asian investments are insanely good.

Yahoo told Ballmer to eat shit.

Yet I tweet ‘On my way to Yahoo….the Detroit of the Internet’ and it is as if I could run for President of Silicon Valley on the snark campaign. People loved it.

Yahoo has their problems with retention these days for sure, but they have some insanely good properties. As my friend @eghosao chimed in when I asked ‘which movie pops into your head when I say Yahoo’?

He blurted: ‘The Good the Bad and The Ugly’

He’s right. I thought ‘The Departed’ and another friend declared ‘Weekend at Bernie’s.’

Yahoo may be the Detroit of the Internet but they are no Bear Stearns or Lehman and won’t need the government to help them print money again.

The unfortunate part is I used to be on their properties (finance, my yahoo and news) a lot. Now, I dont even consider them even though I have heard they are just as good as Google’s.

    Yahoo is a product wasteland.

They spent 10 years riding and caring for products that were built prior to 2001 and not innovating any new product. Now the legacy stuff is old and there’s no one there who knows how to build NEW product.

“Detroit” probably isn’t the best analogy, because GM did have to get bailed out. A better analogy would be a consistently profitable, successful company in another industry that just isn’t considered cool or cutting-edge.

yahoo is incredible and nobody notices
    approaching $1 billion net income
that does not include asian properties which OWN china and japan on the net
