Microsoft – The Dazed and Panicked Follower buys Aquantive

I have owned Valueclick (VCLK) for a while and am buying a little more today. It’s up $3 bucks on the Aquantive purchase by Microsoft.

I have done well, but obviously own the wrong stock. Aquantive is up 27 points on the Microsoft purchase an 88 percent premium and a tidy $6 billion in cash .

Good thing the visionaries at Microsoft did not see this trend developing in 2003 when the stock was FIVE dollars. Forget me missing this, I am just a stock guy. How do the bankers, analysts and geniuses at Microsoft miss this NOW CRUCIAL (?) purchase when they could have owned this for a $100 million. Assanine and another reason to avoid Microsoft. You can’t be a follower and than just overpay as well. It’s like a spoiled, panicked youngster is running Microsoft.

Congrats to the management team at Aquantive who waited for the feast.

With Mixrosoft/Aquantive, Doubleclick/Google, Yahoo/Right Media and WPP/24/7 Real Media, there may not be anyone left to buy Valueclick. Thank goodness for greedy bankers and the private equity boom.

Valueclick is a good bet to be taken out. It’s at all-time highs so I am not breaking any rules for continuing to buy it.

Disclosure – Long Valueclick
